James Ford Cairns

Policeman, academic and prominent Labor Party politician who led the Australian anti-Vietnam war movement in the 1960s. He became Treasurer and Deputy Prime Minister during the turbulent Whitlam government of 1972 to 1975 before losing his position amidst controversy.

Died aged 89
